What is the design process?
The trip design process is based on the book Designing Your Life by Burnett and Evans (2016). This book outlines five steps in defining a problem and developing the appropriate solutions. Whether you are planning your first facilitated study abroad (FSA) or perfecting an existing FSA, this process can help you design a trip that is in line with your preferences, the objectives of your department and college, and the needs of your students.
The trip design process consists of five steps:
Connect the dots between your teaching philosophy, the objectives of your department and college, and the needs of your students.
Recognize the problems that can’t be solved and the problems that must be worked around.
Brainstorm possible FSAs and make three different FSA plans.
Build some FSA prototypes.
Choose well.
We’ll take you through these steps and explain what questions you need to answer to make the best trip choices. Download the trip design document so you can prepare the steps as you read.
