How can you begin integrating study abroad into a college curriculum?
To integrate study abroad into a course, you will need to consult the following stakeholders to get their approval:
- Your department: Colleagues in your department will need to approve your study abroad proposal. Writing a mission statement can help you and your colleagues decide which study abroad format best fits the objectives of your department and the needs of your students.
- Your administration: Depending on your college’s policies and procedures, your administrators and/or your international office may ask you to submit your study abroad proposal using an in-house template or website.
Once your trip is approved, you will also need to determine:
- How pre-departure meetings fit into your weekly calendar as well as into your students’ schedules
- If study abroad will be linked to a specific course, when this course will be offered and which students will be enrolled
- How the study abroad dates fit into your academic calendar
- When final assessments and final marks are due and how much time you will need to submit this information upon your return
