If you have never facilitated study abroad before, or if you would like to plan a new study abroad program at your CEGEP, we recommend that you start with the design section of the website. This section will guide you through the five steps of the design process.

Every CEGEP and every language department has its own rules, regulations, and procedures regarding study abroad programs. Therefore, every teacher’s trip will look different! If this is your first time planning study abroad, or if you would like to perfect an existing program, we recommend that you start with the design section and go through the five steps of the design process.

Teachers in our research project identified three general learning objectives for study abroad: language, culture, and skills. Their ideal study abroad learning activities targeted all three of these objectives simultaneously. For more information about different approaches to language teaching during study abroad, go to the Pedagogy section of the website.

Once you have planned your study abroad learning activities, you need to decide how you will measure your students’ language, culture, and/or skills development. You will also need to become familiar with the challenges of evaluating students outside traditional classroom settings. For more information about assessment and evaluation during and after study abroad, go to the Pedagogy section of the website.
